Our Mission
The School of Sound Recording is a centre of excellence, providing education and training for the audio and digital industries. The main objectives of the school are:

To be totally industry-led. Technology changes rapidly in the field of audio. The advancement of technology often leads to changes in the way the industry works, such as operational changes, consolidated work roles and departmental changes. The audio engineer and technician is now expected to be extremely versatile and have knowledge of wide range of equipment and procedures. SSR intends to follow changing conventions and working practices so that our courses are always up-to date and relevant, giving our students the best available training and a real edge in the job market

To maintain and grow our fantastic relationships with some of the biggest names in the industry (click here). The school very frequently hosts guest lectures and seminars with some of the world’s leading sound engineers and technicians. Events and field trips are commonplace for students at SSR. The industry is always on the look out for new talent, and through SSR the door is open to work placements and lasting careers.

To deliver training using the actual equipment (hardware and software) used by the industry. The industry moves quickly and at SSR we pride ourselves on keeping up with the latest hardware, software and work practices. Click here to see our Facilities.
To provide exceptional value to our customers with training which meets the highest standards seen anywhere across the globe.

To employ industry-active tutors only. Training is not just a case of outlining theories or demonstrating how a piece of equipment works. Our tutors bring a vast amount of industry experience and knowledge into the classrooms and studios, so training is always relevant, engaging and exciting.

To remain totally practical in all our training courses. Even the most academic of courses at SSR involve a large amount of hands-on, practical training. We have a diverse range of audio environments at SSR including recording studios, classrooms, training booths, live rooms and portable workstations to meet all training needs. What’s more, all of our training environments can be booked for extra practice at no additional cost.

To remove the fear-factor from training. We understand that technology can often be scary, especially during the early stages of a training course. At SSR we remove the fear factor with our unique approach to training, which is always informal and friendly. Our tutors are always happy to give additional time, support and pastoral care, and especially during the early stages of your course.

To train ‘outside the box’. Finding success as an engineer, producer, editor, DJ etc is not just a case of knowing how to use the equipment. As well as the technical skills training, at SSR we also focus on the often overlooked soft skills needed for success. This training is often invisible to the student but it underpins our approach and leads to improved communication skills, stronger relationships and improved career prospects for our graduates.
