Music Industry Summer School at SSR
Launch your career in music this summer! It’s no surprise that those who succeed in the music business seem to tell a similar story – that is – they started at school age and got professional training.
SSR are running a series of week-long Masterclasses from our world-famous facilities based in Central Manchester. So, whether you want to be a famous singer or performer, a big name DJ, a Record Producer, or in a successful band, you can start developing your career over the school holiday period this summer.

For a 5-week period, we are offering a Masterclass series of exciting week-long training courses in 5 different areas of the music business. So, if you want to make your mates jealous and be the envy of the class, come to SSR and take the first steps in your career in music!
From July 28th to August 29th you can book onto one or more of the following Masterclasses at SSR:
1. Singing and Stage Performance Skills
2. DJ Techniques
3. The Band Service
4. Record Producer Masterclass (professional sound engineering and Pro Tools)
5. Electronic Music Production (with Cubase and Reason software)
Our 5-day courses are designed specifically for people aged 14 to 18 years, and are based at our world class studios in central Manchester (3 minutes walk from Piccadilly train station).

1. Singing and Stage Performance Skills
Our professional singing and performance tutors will bring out the very best in your performance. Learn the techniques used by today's most successful stars to:-
improve your vocal range
improve your stage performance
improve your timing, pitching and scaling
Raise your self-confidence through the roof!
Over 5 days you will be guided by experts, advised by critics, and nurtured by professionals, culminating in a recorded performance on the SSR big stage!

2. DJ Techniques
Attend the world-famous Technics DJ Academy and throughout the week you will be taught about the latest DJ hardware and software, learn how to mix records and perform difficult scratching techniques… by one of the region's most highly skilled and best respected DJs - Masta Wong. Skills include:-
Beat matching
Scratch techniques
Ableton
Creating a Mix CD
Self promotion as a DJ
Events and live performance
Use our purpose built DJ booths and equipment such as Technics, Pioneer CDJs, Ableton software, Serato Scratch Live, Allen & Heath & Rane to take your DJing to another level!

3. The Band Service
In conjunction with Bandskool, SSR is offering you and your band a major leap forward in your career, by way of the Band Service. This 5-day crash course in band development can save you years of hard slog and wrong turns. Learn from the professionals if you are serious about your musical future. Band Service includes the following crucial services:-
A professionally recorded track in one of the region's top studios
Finding your sound (and your unique selling point)
Improving your stage performance
How the music industry works and how to go about getting a deal
Media friendly skills
This 5-day eye-opener is designed to put you and your band on the right track.

4. Record Producer Masterclass (professional sound engineering and Pro Tools)
Enter the mind of the record producer and learn the techniques and tricks of the trade – ideal for bands or anyone thinking about recording music… Over the week you will use our professional recording studios to learn:-
The mixing desk
Microphones and microphone placement
Studio effects
Pro Tools (industry standard software for recording and producing music)
Recording a drum kit
Recording bass, guitar and vocals
Tricks of the trade
Mixing a track
Spend a week in our professional studios, with a top record producer using the best equipment!

5. Electronic Music Production
Enjoy five days of producing your own tracks using industry professional tools such as Propellerhead’s Reason and Steinberg’s Cubase. Working with a music producer you’ll explore how to compose, record and produce your own track. After 5 days you will leave SSR with a CD of your own making! Sessions include:-
Beat making
Recording instruments/vocals
Sampling
Basslines
Synth leads and sound fx
Composing & Producing
A complete and compact 5-day guide for all aspiring professional music producers.

Each course costs a total of £199
Each course is five days in duration
Each day runs from 10am – 3:00pm
Summer School 2008 will take place between the 28th of July and the 29th of August

Additional Information
- All our tutors are CRB checked.
- SSR has been delivering professional training in music and sound technologies for 24 years (Est 1984).
- Our aim is to engage young people with a passion (and possible future career goal) for music and sound, and to give them a chance to experience training to the highest standards. Our summer schools activities are designed to be fun and informative.
- Using the latest studio and stage equipment, all our workshops are taught by industry-active, professional tutors.
- Although food is not provided, there will be supervised lunch breaks each day. We have a large lounge area (the Green Room) for participants to either use our food and drink dispensers or if preferred you can bring a packed lunch.
