The Charlie Jones Project
Introduction by Chris Hill, Director, Wigwam Acoustics

"Wigwam Acoustics are proud to announce their participation in the development of first-class Live Sound education at SSR.

In recognition of Charlie Jones, his service and his desire to shape the next generation of Live Sound Engineers, we feel it is time for a company like ours to get involved.

Together with SSR we are developing a Live Sound Training Course that is relevant, worthwhile and that will lead to employment within the Live Audio industry.

The past ten years has seen major developments in technology used within Live Audio, and it is apparent that engineers and technicians working in our field need to have specialist training to use this equipment to achieve the best end results.

If we can help train young people wishing to work in our industry to stay ahead of advancements in working practices, we are confident that it will benefit other companies like Wigwam and assist the development of the Audio Industry as a whole.

It is important to point out that it is possible to have a successful and lucrative career path in live sound and that it is not just a hobby industry.

Wigwam and other companies are all looking to recruit young technicians and engineers especially ones who can embrace the changes and advancements and develop it within our field.

Wigwam are delighted to confirm the participation of some of the industry's leading manufacturers to provide demonstrations, lectures and training on some of the latest products and technologies available in our industry [for a complete lst of creative partners, click here].

3Sixty Media are the facilities company for BBC and Granada TV. They have shown huge enthusiasm for the project, and will provide specialist trainng with specific emphasis to audio for drama and broadcast techniques.

I would like to personally thank each of these organisations for their support and enthusiasm. They are involved because they all feel that the future of the live sound industry needs a training programme which is not only current, but keeps up with the fast pace of change; a training programme which is lead by the industry itself.

Over the coming months Wigwam are committed, along with everyone else involved, to the development of the programme and syllabus. We are also planning training sessions and placement schemes at our Manchester headquarters.

I hope that this brief statement will encourage prospective students to apply for the scholarship and I look forward to the development of the next generation of sound engineers and technicians ".
