FdA Music Production provides an in-depth preparation for a diversity of careers in the recording industry. Content will cover studio production in professional studios, computer music production using industry standard software and compositional work, and audio visual media production. Modules will explore academic research, music business and management roles, web-based applications, creative music sequencing and studio/music management through both academic study and practical application.

The course duration is either 2 years full-time, run over 32 weeks per year, or 3 years part-time. Attendance is 14 hours class contact per week (with 2 additional hours studio time), generally arranged over 3 days (full-time) or 1 - 2 days (part-time). The whole course is delivered at SSR with tutors from Accrington and Rossendale and SSR. Travel to Accrington site will be necessary for enrolment each year, and use of college facilities will also be available at Accrington and UClan in Preston (our validating university). All the modules are delivered in professional studios, computer suites and teaching classrooms at SSR, and a range of professional external venues. All training takes place with a combination of lectures, workshops, work-based activities and practical sessions.

The qualification is nationally recognised and widely sought after by all sectors of the music industry who wish to employ people with practical skills and the ability to apply them in the recording environment. The Foundation Degree provides a route to a BA (Hons) Degree in Music Production, a new top up for this course available at SSR from September 2009. We currently offer a top up based at UCLan in Preston, and there is also a wide range of BA (Hons) degrees available nationally as well as other professional qualifications.

Work-based learning will be an integral part of the course and students will have the opportunity to use the knowledge and the skills they acquire in a professional environment.
