Film & TV Audio Post Production detailed course description
The Film & TV Audio Post Production course is divided into 3 phases of graded
learning, from beginner level (starting in Phase 1) to intermediate and experienced
users (starting in Phase 2-3).
Graduates of this course can expect to have the hard and soft skills necessary for
entry into the post production audio industry. Graduates will also be eligible for
entry onto higher level Post Graduate Degree training.
This comprehensive course is delivered using both the PC and MAC platforms. The
course covers a variety of industry hardware and software including Final Cut Pro. As well as the technical aspects of the training,
the course also focuses on the mechanics of the industry,
Phase 01 - Introduction to Sound and Video:
- Sound Engineering Basics, Principles of Sound, Psychoacoustics
- Studio techniques: Signal flow, Equalisation, Compression, Spatial effects
- Introduction to film and video (transmission, signal, frame rates, etc.)
- Introduction to typical post production workflows
- Practical time: Short projects (advertisements, trailers) – develop basic video and sound editing / recording skills
Phase 02 - Audio Post Production techniques:
- Using ICON consoles for 5.1 surround mixing, Advanced Post Production
and Workflows.
- Final Cut Pro tuition, ADR theory and practice, Field recording, Sound FX
generation (theory / practice). Foley recording (theory / practice), in-depth
mixing (theory / practice)
- Practical time: Medium scale projects (excerpts from TV series, movie
sequences) – introduction to the many job roles encountered in typical post
production environments (track laying, ADR recording, dubbing, editing,
Foley work, etc.).
Phase 03 - Advanced Audio Post Production:
- Hardware and software requirements as above, plus access to further
advanced studios for recording / mixing / editing. Introduction / access to
facilities of our industry partners.
- Final Cut Pro
- Advanced tuition on subjects introduced in Module 02 (ADR, Foley, Mixing,
etc.)
- Industry related practice (large-scale projects, e.g. full TV episodes,
documentaries, etc.) – working in teams, project exchange through different
stages, working towards tight deadlines. Specific company research and job
application.
