ON THE HORIZON ... SSR KOH CHANG

Read about the latest development here.

The next stage of SSR’s evolution will see the development of a pioneering, innovative new campus on the beautiful island of Koh Chang, Thailand.

Currently 3 acres of beach fronted, coconut tree dominated tropical paradise, the site offers a completely different learning experience to SSR’s current bases in the UK and other territories. The beautiful blank canvas of the site on Koh Chang will be mindfully developed and nurtured, with an exciting mix of east meets west and a merging of values and cultures.

The chance is upon SSR to utilise modern technology and environmentally friendly practises to create a new kind of campus, offering sustainability and economic benefits to the region. With bursaries, scholarships and taster sessions available to local school children and students, while attracting a high-level of talent from further afield, SSR Koh Chang will aim to give something back to the wider community and cater for the different customs, needs and resources of the island.

The new campus will offer the burgeoning talent of South East Asian students the chance to experience SSR’s award winning training much closer to home. It will also provide the opportunity for foreign exchange programmes, with all SSR students given the option of taking part of their course in a different country; ‘exchanging’ to the UK and vice versa for the final 3 months of their course.

This exchange will not just be an educational one however, as SSR will also organise visits to sites of cultural and historical significance for all exchange students in their destination city, including trips to local museums, historic sites, music and arts festivals and sporting events.

This presents Thai and Asian students with the chance to study in Manchester or London, sampling western culture and the excitement these big cities have to offer, while UK students can experience the vibrant eastern cities such as Bangkok and the island paradise that is Koh Chang. The students will be armed with the same state of the art facilities available at SSR Manchester and London, yet under a starlit sky not dimmed by western neon.

This idea of cultural exchange will be at the heart of the SSR Koh Chang project. The ideas for this site are fantastic and bold; with recording studios, film/video suites, computer rooms, concert hall, student accommodation, shops and spa surrounding the studios and facilities. SSR also hopes to cater for talented musicians from the region who will be able to perform in the planned live venue which will be at the heart of the complex, with the potential to record in the studios too. The campus will benefit not just SSR students and musicians, but also the local population via this new community based complex available for all to use and enjoy.

"From my first visit many years ago, Thailand has always been very close to my heart. I fell in love with the culture, the people and the beauty of the country and I am delighted that SSR will be developing its next campus on Koh Chang. In a way this is a thank you to the country and my chance to give something back to a region that I hold very dear"

SSR Koh Chang is currently in the early stages of development and is scheduled for a tentative opening date of 2013/14.
