Chris Power
Chris teaches on the Audio Engineering Techniques and Technology course. He has worked as a recording sound engineer on countless sessions, from the Halle Orchestra to Badly Drawn Boy. He is an expert-level Pro Tools instructor; a distinguished title, as there are only a handful in the world.


Martin Desai
Involved in the music industry for over 10 years, Martin set up his own studio in 1996. He has co-produced many albums, as well as remixing artists such as Mr Scruff, The Sugababes, Nitin Sawney and Jennifer Ellison. He has released his own album on East West Records and is published with BMG. He also continues to be a professional engineer / producer and artist.


Paul Maunder
After initially starting his career producing radio commercials, Paul went on to design and run a post-production studio, making corporate videos and TV commercials. He has worked with many TV and radio presenters including Sir Trevor McDonald, Vinnie Jones, Fern Cotton, and has recently worked on the sound for a number of Xbox 360 TV commercials.


Jay Beard
Jay is SSR’s live sound tutor, and joined the school after 12 years on the road. He has circled the globe over a hundred times as a touring engineer, working for top bands such as Doves, Elbow and Snow Patrol. He also engineered his good friends Cherry Ghost at Glastonbury.


Ian Carmichael
Involved in the music industry for over 20 years, Ian’s career started in the nightclubs of Glasgow where he mixed for visual artists such as Bronski Beat, John Martyn and BB King. By 1986 Ian moved to studio work where he recorded Pet Shop Boys, Texas, Wet Wet Wet, Del Amitri, The Shamen and Lamb. Ian’s own band ‘One Dove’ released 5 singles (two top 40) and a top 30 album. They appeared on Top of the Pops and toured Europe and America.


Alan Wrench
After graduating from Salford University with a BA Hons (in Pop Music and Recording), Alan went on to design and build his own commercial recording studio. Alan’s musicianship and technical ablilty earnd him the John Lennon award for outstanding creative talent in 1992. He has since produced singles and albums for many bands and artists and his own releases have seen top-10 success in the Dance Charts both at home and overseas.


Stuart Avery
As well as his SSR teaching role, Stuart works as a freelance producer and mastering engineer for a wide range of artists and independent labels. His credits range from New Model Army to Angie Brown, ABC to Northern Uproar, plus a number of new exciting acts such as The Deadbeats and Ian Britt. Stuart can often be seen engineering live concerts at venues all over the city. He also owns successful local concert promotion company, SA Promotions.


Damion O’Brien
Damion is a writer, musician and solo electronica artist AKA Designerthumbs. He also works with guitar/electronica band Moetucker. His music has been released on labels Raw Fish (UK) and TQE Productions (US). He has produced music for film, games and television including ‘The Scene’ sci-fi series. Damion works as a dance music producer and live sound engineer, recently playing on the Helen Farley-Jones album and tour.


Andrew Wong
Andrew, AKA Chengy, has been DJing for the past 16 years and has been teaching at SSR’s Technics DJ Academy for the past 7. Chengy specialises in creative DJing and scratching techniques. His style is eclectic and broad, ranging from Hip Hop & Soul to House & Drum’n’Bass.


Chase Johnston-Lynch
Chase is an American filmmaker with over 20 years experience working in the rap music industry as a producer/director for various Hip Hop artists ranging from The Wu Tang Clan and Redman to Jay-Z and Young Kof. He has been working in Liverpool and Manchester for the past 7 years making short films and music videos as a freelancer but has since moved into the teaching realm. He has a masters degree in Digital New Media and a PGCE Certificate of Foundation. Chase still works freelance making music videos with his own production company Square One Pictures.


Sally Hesketh
Sally has been a freelance sound engineer for the past 4 years, working on pre-recorded, live and outside broadcast programs for TV and radio, with clients such as ITV, The BBC, Sky and XFM. She has worked on shows as diverse as Coronation Street, Mastermind and Jeremy Kyle. Sally completed her Pro Tools training in Burbank, California, studying Advanced Post Production Techniques for Pro Tools with some of the industry’s most respected engineers and tutors, and regularly works for one of SSR’s creative partners, 3sixty Media, training their staff or track laying sessions for them.


Pete Reeves
Pete has worked in radio for over thirty years in both presentation and managerial positions. He was the first voice heard on the legendary United Biscuits Network moving later to help set up and run Piccadilly Radio in Manchester. Since then he has worked for such commercial stations as Radio West, Red Rose Radio, KEY103 and Jazz FM. He also worked for the BBC presenting and producing shows for their local and national networks. Pete also writes successfully for Television.


Steve Buckley
Classically trained on Piano, Steve began his professional studio career in 1978 and became in-house engineer/producer at Square 1 in Bury; working alongside acts such as The Christians, Echo & The Bunnymen and Take That. Steve worked on Black’s Million selling Wonderful Life Album, for which he received an Ampex Gold Reel Award. Turning freelance in 1992, he continued to work with acts such as Cher, Boy George and Linda Lewis. He is respected as an engineer/producer and as a string/bass arranger and session musician, working in dance music with artists such as Dannii Minouge and WiFi.
