Project Objectives
The key element of WISEAMP is a FREE 26 week training course, with the specific aim of up-skilling women involved in the North West music industry by providing training in the areas of Sound Engineering and Music Production.

The training programme will be supported by a soft networking seminar, professional development seminars and a website providing resources, advice and a forum. Together, these elements should help create a formal network for women involved in the music industry in the North West.

Who is WISEAMP designed for?
The project is designed specifically for participants with some technical experience within the music industry. Those with a more musical background will also benefit.

Those with non-technical experience will also be accepted, providing that they are computer literate and have a grasp of the concept of sound engineering and music production.

We are able to accept 30 particpants onto the training programme. To be eligible, applicants must be over 18, resident in the UK and eligible to work within the EU.

Programme Structure
The programme comprises 3 key elements:

1) Soft Networking Seminar, week commencing 24th April 2006
As an introduction to the training prgramme, the seminar will also provide the opportunity for participants to meet and interact

2) 26 Week Training Programme, commences 1st May 2006
Split into 3 modules, the training course itself will cover the following subject areas:

1) DIGITAL SOUND PRODUCTION
2) STUDIO TECHNIQUES
3) INTRODUCTION TO SYNTHESIS & MIDI

Participants may choose to take either 1, 2 or all 3 modules, depending upon the time they are able to commit.

3) Professional Development Seminars, date tbc
This series of short sessions will provide support and development in areas such as Business and dministration skills, mentorship, entrepreneurial skills and netwroking opportunities.

Project Website
A dedicated WISEAMP website will be developed in tandem with the training programme, so that, upon completion of the programme, there wil exist an online platform for advice, resources and interaction between users.

Detailed Overview

1) DIGITAL SOUND PRODUCTION
11 weeks

The aim of the module is to teach the operation of Pro Tools, an industry standard audio recording and editing system. It will also teach how to use Pro Tools to mix in a studio environment. At the end of the module participants will take the Pro Tools 101 exam.

Topics Include:
> Recording audio onto Pro Tools
> Using editing modes and tools
> Mixing concepts, including the use of plug-ins
> MIDI in Pro Tools
> Dynamic controllers
> Equalisation
> 'Train the trainer' and music business lectures

2) STUDIO TECHNIQUES
8 weeks

The aim of this module is to equip you with the skills and knowledge to engineer music in a multi-track recording studio. By the end of the module you will have planned and recorded a session to professional standard.

Topics include:
> Planning and organising a recording session
> Mixing desk operation
> Microphone placement
> Digital recording
> Analogue recording and synchronisation

3) INTRODUCTION TO SYNTHESIS & MIDI
7 weeks

The aim of this module is to analyse and apply the techniquesand procedures involved in the production of music using computers and related technologies.

Topics include:
> Understanding MIDI
> MIDI sequencing
> Synthesis & Sampling
> 'Train the trainer' and music business lectures
