(Times as below)
Taking place in the Charlie Jones Live Venue at SSR Manchester, a series of workshops focusing on different topics and workflows for Ableton Live and Push users of all ability levels.
- 12pm - Everything Is An Instrument - Ableton Live has some great tools for realising your musical ideas and inspiring your creativity. Record your guitar playing and transform it into an orchestra; hum a few notes into your laptop mic and turn it instantly into a synth bassline, tap a rhythm on the desk and create a classic drum machine loop. Certified Trainer Simon Lyon explores the creative possibilities with Live’s “Audio to MIDI” function. Session followed by 15 min Q&A time.
- 2pm - Push Your Hardware To The Limit - There has been a huge resurgence of interest in hardware recently. Classic synths and drum machines are truly back in vogue. But did you know that you can play and sequence them using Ableton Push? Certified Trainer Michael Greig shows you how, taking full advantage of Push’s scales mode and using Push’s touch sensitive encoders to tweak parameters on the fly to capture a performance. Session followed by 15 min Q&A time.
- 3pm - The Essential Guide to Max4Live - Max4Live is a versatile toolkit of devices included with Live 9 Suite. It can be used to build pretty much anything you can imagine but for the less geeky among us there are also some ready made devices for you to use right out of the box. Ableton Certified Trainer Mark Towers guides you through some of his favourites including Mono Sequencer, LFO, Convolution Reverb and Glue Compressor. Session followed by 15 min Q&A time.
- 4pm - From the Studio to the Stage - A short live performance by Max Wheeler of Anushka (Brownswood Recordings) on Ableton Live & Push, followed by an audience Q&A where Max breaks down his live set / rig and details how the duo adapt their studio work for live performance. Here we look at how Ableton Live enables artists to bring their studio to the stage and add “hands-on” improvisation to each performance.
