For the first guest lecture of the new term we are delighted to be welcoming Jimi Goodwin of legendary Manchester band Doves to SSR on Tuesday 13th September.
Before embracing Brit-pop in the late '90s, Doves' three members -- vocalist/bassist Jimi Goodwin, guitarist Jez Williams, and drummer Andy Williams -- figured prominently in the Madchester scene, where they scored a top five single as part of the dance combo Sub Sub. Ain't No Love (Ain't No Use) peaked at number three in the U.K. After taking several years to restructure their sound, the musicians reappeared in 1998 as Doves and went on to score numerous chart hits and cult status with songs such as Pounding, Satellites and There Goes The Fear.
Having (pretty much!) seen it all in the music industry, Jimi will be discussing his life and experiences in music; touring the world, the highs and lows of chart success and fame, recording, producing, working with engineers and sharing some advice on how you, SSR students, can get the best out of the artists you're working with in the studio.
As always, the talk will also culminate in a Q&A session where you can pick Jimi's brains on all things Doves and music.
