Charlie Jones Live Venue
Manchester
We teamed up with Wigwam Acoustics to build the Charlie Jones Live Venue, in memory of the great sound engineer Charlie Jones, who passed away in 2006. As well as being one of the coolest classrooms in Manchester, this space doubles up as a fully-functioning live music venue, with a capacity of 200 and some staggering equipment. Playing host to SSR’s exciting events and showcase concerts, it’s where the ideas of many of our students truly come into fruition.

This is the real deal: a live music venue offering a D&B Q-Series PA with full-spec drive rack, fully controllable lighting and a wireless mic / monitor system. In fact, you’ll find pretty much everything you could ask for from the full on-the-road experience here; think tie lines to our other studios and Midas Verona, Avid VENUE D-Show, Midas M32 and Behringer X32 front-of-house consoles, allowing you to practice on a range of analogue and digital systems you’re likely to encounter on the road.

The Charlie Jones Venue also features full hardware / plugin effects, Allen & Heath GL2800 Monitor Console with Martin Audio monitor system, dedicated backline and microphones and digital audio routing systems from Yamaha and Allen & Heath.

From the legal noise limit to the electricity supply, we’ve thought of everything to make sure this space immerses you in the true experience of being on tour. The D-Show boasts a virtual sound check option, which lets you work with video and audio performances from the likes of Tom Petty and Black Eyed Peas. You get to set up and mix a ‘live’ performance from famous artists, giving you a truly realistic taste of what it is to work on live gigs.

With its enviable technical credentials, this is more than just a classroom: this is a real-life live venue, as well as being a fitting tribute to one of the industry’s most talented live sound engineers.
