Music Production Hardware & Software
Everyone likes playing with the latest toys and tech, but mastering how to get the best out of them takes serious training, plenty of practice and a little trial and error.
Students on our EMP course can access a wide range of hardware, software, controllers and plugins to produce music. The main DAWs we use on the course are Ableton Live, Logic Pro and Cubase, with specific notes and assignments for your choice of software. Virtual instruments and plugins come from the Native Instruments Komplete pack; Battery, Kontakt, Massive, FM8, Absynth etc.
On the hardware side, expect to get your hands on MIDI keyboards, Native Instruments Maschine, synths such as the Doepfer Modular, Juno 106, Access Virus, Nord Lead and Korg's Volca pack, Ableton Push and more.
Studio Access, Edit Suites & DJ Facilities
The course is taught using our professional level Mac Suites, Editing Suites, Introductory Recording Studios and DJ Booths.
As a student on the course, you will be taught in these facilities and also have your own allocation of studio credits which allow you to book them for your own practice time outside of lectures. This allocation can be booked whenever SSR is open; mornings, evenings, weekends...it's up to you, and easy to fit around your other commitments such as work or family.

Learn to DJ
It's not just about making your own music - we'll also show you how to perform in a live environment through DJing and live sets.
During the EMP course you will receive specific DJ Tuition lessons that cover equipment familiarisation and mixing techniques alongside 1-2-1 tutorials with our DJ tutors customised to your current ability level.
During the course you will also have access to our DJ booths and DJ facilities, so you can put your new mixing skills into practice and start developing your live performances straight away. Check the facilities links above for information on the DJ equipment you'll be using.
The next intake of the EMP course starts in Manchester on Tuesday 8th March 2016, and in London on Friday 23rd September 2016.
Both those London and Manchester start dates are for people wishing to start the course with the Introduction to Electronic Music Production
3 month module.
If you would like to do the full 6 month course, the start date is the same, you just continue your studies onto the advanced Applied Electronic Music Production

If you already have some experience of production and using DAW's, you may be eligible to skip the first three month module and start with the final three month Applied Electronic Music Production module only.
Applied Electronic Music Production next starts in Manchester on 31st May 2016, and in London on Friday 6th January 2017.
