On 17th November we were delighted to welcome acclaimed DJ, remixer and label head Seamus Haji to our London campus.
During a special guest lecture, Seamus talked to students from our Electronic Music & DJ Practice
degree course about his life in music, approaches to production and life as a DJ.
For the first part of the lecture Seamus, a Pioneer brand ambassador for a number of years and instrumental in the development of various Pioneer products, showcased how he uses Pioneer’s Rekordbox technology and CDJs for performance. More than just a technical talk, Seamus also showed our students how he prepares and uses this system in his sets and radio show; demonstrating that the key skills of music selection and reading a crowd are still important, with hot cues, looping and FX adding an extra layer of on-the-fly creativity.
The second half of the lecture was an insight into his fascinating career - starting off working in a record shop to chart-topping remixes and record label A&R, how the industry has changed and the importance of being in the right place at the right time, with the right people.
The event was a great success and our students got some great advice and tips they can now apply to their own performances and setups.
Big thanks to Seamus for taking the time to speak to our students - we're already looking forward to welcoming him back to SSR in the future!
