SSR Manchester - Top 5 Picks from the E3 Conference
Top 5 Picks from the E3 Conference
Each year, the Entertainment Software Association host the biggest games conference in the industry. The Electronic Entertainment Expo, or E3 as it is more commonly referred to, is where the biggest names get together to showcase their releases for the year ahead – think massive companies such as Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony.

2016 was the 22nd E3 event to run, and as you can imagine it was jam packed full of conferences and exhibitions, with some of the most exciting and beautiful games being announced.

Head of Game Art, Bradley Harris, talks us through his top 5 games announced at E3.

5- Quake Champions

Wow, this takes me back to the mid 90’s, playing Quake 1 at LAN parties round my mates house (Good times!). Now the trailer seems to be more of a cinematic cut scene than game play footage, but from what was said at the conference they want to bring a new spin to the Quake franchise by making a range of characters that have unique characteristics much like Blizzard's Overwatch. They will also be adding leagues to try and break into the e-sports arena. If you like your fast paced multiplayer games one to look out for!

4- Watchdogs 2

Not really an announcement at E3 as we have had quite a lot of footage before, but this game looks freaking awesome! Probably one of the most realistic games I have ever seen. I remembered being really excited about the first Watchdogs game but was let down by the repetitive game play and the massive lack of depth. Let’s hope that the game play is as good as the graphics for Watchdogs 2!

3- Spider-Man

Sony announced a new Spider-Man game by Insomniac, creators of Sunset Overdrive. Now from what I understand, this has nothing to do with Spider-Man being introduced to Marvel Cinematic Universe and is a standalone story. However, it does seem timely that Captain America Civil War came out only a few months ago and there are massive similarities in the suit design. From the trailer this looks like a great open world Spidey action game.

2- God of war

KRATOS IS BACK! This looks like a bit of a departure from the previous hack-and-slash games of the past. It looks to be a more emotional story, as Kratos now has a son and seems to be a lot older with more of a much better mastery of his temper. At first I thought this must be a re-boot as its set in the land of the Viking, but it is actually going to be a continuation of his story. With elements that made me think of Crystal Dynamics’ Rise of the Tomb Raider. Very much looking forward to this!

1- Battlefield 1

This looks like a return back to top form from the guys over at Dice. I am a huge fan of the Battlefield series however I felt that the last few instalments were a bit bland. Looking at Battlefield 1 trailer, I feel they might have out done themselves! The graphics look stunning and there appears to be a rich amount diverse game play. I’m also really looking forward to the more focused vehicle rolls. I really can’t wait for this!
