On Monday February 27th, the Film Production students had a visit from Carl Arnfield (aka Chalkman)
talking about his long and varied experience of making music videos. Course students are currently in pre-production for their own music video so this was a timely visit and Carl regaled them with many stories of his (entirely self-taught) path to becoming an in-demand music video director and DoP.‘Having Carl give us his experiences was ideal for the students on the six month Film Production course – SSR’s new Industry Course that concentrates on the practical aspects of film-making, readying students for real jobs in the industry. Having first-hand experience from practitioners in many different areas of commercial film and video is a real asset to our students and something they probably wouldn’t get anywhere else.’
- Ian Sandall, Film Production Tutor
Previous guest lecturers on the course have included TV presenter and journalist Andy Johnson who demonstrated exactly how to run an effective TV interview (before turning the tables on the students and interviewing them!) as well as voice and drama coach Heather Phoenix who discussed casting and using actors before working with the students on ‘blocking out’ and filming a scene from a recent TV show she’d been involved with.
