As part of our Music Business & Creative Industries BSc (Hons)
course, students are encouraged to regularly engage with industry press and online media, to improve their knowledge of the business behind the music industry.
One of the online tools our students have access to during their studies is ‘Record of the Day
’. Acting as a tastemaker in music, this website gives exposure to both larger well-known bands as well as small unsigned artists, as final year student Simon Gibson found out this week.
During his time at SSR, Simon has set up ‘Generate! Generate! Management’ and acting as management for Liverpool band ‘The Blame
’, he was advised by course leader Jo Hilditch’ to contact the company and try to secure a feature on their website to promote the band.
After initially being offered a paid-for advertorial, Simon used his range of business skills to negotiate a free feature for ‘The Blame’ as ‘Record of the Day’, whilst also gaining exposure for his management company. Having released their debut single in February, this will be a huge boost in promotion for the band and it is a fantastic achievement for Simon and ‘Generate! Generate! Management’, who has already been approached by music pluggers who have connections to both UK Top 40 and Grammy nominated artists.
Well done Simon!
