SSR’s short course co-ordinator Andy Low was recently presented with a ‘Somewhere to…’ award in recognition of SSR’s contribution to the ’Somewhere to...’ project. Somewhere_to… aims to open up spaces to young people so that they can explore their creative and sporting sides.
SSR has contributed to this nation wide scheme, which is run by Livity and in partnership with Channel 4 Education, by opening up the doors to our studios and venue space to allow young artists and bands to record and rehearse. This scheme has seen up and coming artists from the London area link up with SSR students and staff help create some great tracks.
Recent artists to work out of SSR London in collaboration with Somewhere_to were singer/songwriter Juliyaa and rapper Infecta.
Infecta Alika Agidi-Jeffs (born February 26, 1991), who records under the mononym Infecta, is a London recording artist and actor. He originally became known for playing part in a BBC Production at Royal Festival Hall / National Film Theatre and is now crowned as one of Southwark’s Best Talents. Infecta was recorded by our Technical Manager Andrew Kyprianou in our flagship Spirit Studio.
GUBA Award Winning singer Juliyaa is a singer-songwriter born and raised in North London. Rooted in African-inspired polyrhythms, layered with harmonious soul vocals and infused with the high energy of UK urban music, Juliyaa effortlessly combines different musical genres into a sound she calls ’Rhythmic Soul’. Juliyaa was also recorded in Spirit studio by Audio Engineering student Michael Mcguill.
We are delighted to support the Somehwere_to inititive and help give platforms to some of the up and coming talent round the London area. It is great not only for the artists, who are be able to use our state of the art facilities and expertise but also for our students who have the chance to get some real world experience, working on tracks that will soon be released.
