SSR Manchester - SSR Facilities Upgrade 2013
SSR Facilities Upgrade 2013
As part of our commitment to providing the best and most up-to-date technical media training available, we are constantly reviewing our facilities and planning updates and upgrades to keep them in line with fast moving industry standards and innovations.

Throughout this summer of 2013, we have been doing just that!

Our resources and IT teams are currently hard at work performing software updates, installing new hardware and overhauling our behind-the-scenes networks and support systems in order to provide the best training experience possible for our new and returning students.

We truly believe that with the updates listed below, combined with our existing and recently announced industry and academic courses, SSR is continuing to provide an unrivalled experience when it comes to media and music education.

Tom Aston – SSR Technical DirectorTom Aston – SSR Technical Director:
"I'm delighted to announce this summers' raft of facilities upgrades. Our continued commitment to providing our students with the latest technology will bring Pro Tools 11, Cubase 7, Reason 7, Ableton 9, Logic Pro X, Melodyne DNA and Media Composer 7 to SSR Manchester this summer.

Investments in some new technologies for SSR, including Avid ISIS shared storage and Native Instruments Komplete, will enrich delivery of our courses and provide more creative and collaborative options for student projects.

Many 'under the hood' investments have also been brought in, including new computers and upgrades to networking infrastructure, that will continue to ensure our excellent reputation for facility reliability and availability."

Software updates:

The following software updates and additions will be on-line in time for the new term starting in September, with some already in place:

Pro Tools 11

By September, every computer and studio in the SSR Manchester building will be running Pro Tools 11, the latest release of Avid’s leading Digital Audio Workstation. Our beginner and intermediate level studios will be installed with Pro Tools 11 HD Native, while our advanced studios will feature the most powerful systems, running Pro Tools 11 HD X.

Avid ISIS 5000-16 Server

In addition to the Pro Tools software, we have also installed an Avid ISIS 5000-16 Server. This dedicated audio server allows our students to run their sessions and projects straight from the SSR network, without the need for time consuming copying and saving of large session files. This will make recording and editing sessions much more efficient and save crucial time waiting for sessions to copy to and from the network.

Not only good news for our core students, this upgrade will also keep SSR at the forefront of Avid Pro Tools courses, offering official certification to industry professionals and hobbyists alike.

Apple Logic Pro X

The latest version of Apple’s recording and sequencing software will be installed in all our Mac based studios, suites and computers by September 2013. As an Apple 'Authorised Training Centre for Education', Logic Pro X tuition will continue to be included on a variety of our courses in addition to our stand-alone official Logic Pro certification courses.

Additional SSR software updates include:

Ableton Live 9
Cubase 7
Reason 7
Native Instruments Komplete 9
Celemony Melodyne Editor version 2
Mountain Lion OSX
Avid Media Composer 7

Hardware Upgrades

In addition to the software updates listed above, we have invested in a range of new hardware and equipment throughout the SSR building that will apply to many different courses. Hardware additions include:

Avid C|24 Console

Perhaps the ‘biggest’ hardware addition this summer sees us updating our current Control 24 studio with a completely new Avid C|24 control surface / console, which will also be housed in brand new desk furniture. Sleek and stylish, the 24-channel C|24 control surface provides direct hands-on control of Pro Tools and Pro Tools|HD mixing, recording, and editing; a complete array of high-quality analog inputs; and a 5.1 analogue monitor section to use with your Pro Tools I/O. It tightly integrates with the latest advancements in Pro Tools software to provide an incredibly powerful and richly featured console option.

The updated C|24 studio will also feature a new widescreen projector for displaying Pro Tools sessions and/or video playback.

HP Z220 Work Stations

Our PC suite has been updated with 22x HP Z220 PC workstations complete with LG 21.5” LED monitors. These HP computers are very high-end PC’s and are fully supported for music production by leading software companies including Avid and Steinberg, and have been fully tested with all the software running on them. This provides our students with powerful Mac alternatives for mixing sessions and lectures.

Additional hardware and equipment upgrades:

Along with a brand new C|24 console, we will be making the following additions to our wide range of hardware and equipment available to students, including:

Midi Controllers

1x Native Instruments Mashine MK2
1x Native Instruments Mashine Mikro MK2
1x Ableton Push Controller
2x Avid Artist MC Mix Surfaces
25x M-Audio Axiom MK2 Midi Controllers

Other hardware & Equipment

Korg Volka Modular Groovebox
Avid HD I/O (replacing our old 96 I/O’s)
MOTU Midi Express 128 8x8 USB Interfaces
Rode 2M mini boom mic pole
Ultimate MC-125 boom mic stand
Zildjan Planet Z cymbal pack

We are looking forward to getting everything up and running in time for our new and returning students in September, and we can’t wait to see and hear some of the projects and sessions that will take place on all the new equipment!

In addition to everything listed above, we are also putting the finishing touches to further facilities upgrades that we hope to announce very soon, so keep your eye on this website for all the details!

If you are not yet an SSR student, there are still a few places left on some of our industry and academic courses…see you in September!?
