SSR students invited to The Who soundcheck
26 of our students were recently invited to the Manchester Arena for a production tour of rock legends The Who’s live show.
The students, from our Live Sound engineering and other courses, went to the arena with Live Sound tutor Jay Beard for a tour of the band’s live production setup and were able to talk to the band’s crew and ask plenty of questions about bringing a large scale production to the arena.
The students were also lucky enough to watch the band soundcheck 3 songs and as an added bonus, managed to bag tickets for the evening concert itself.
Paul Ramsay, The Who’s front of house (FOH) engineer invited Jay and our students along for the tour and we would like to take this opportunity to say thanks to Paul and the rest of The Who’s production crew for facilitating the visit.
SSR Live Sound Tutor Jay Beard:
“It is always a great opportunity to be able to take our students behind the scenes at large gigs such as this. Being able to walk around the stage and FOH mixing position and ask questions of the crew gives the students a great insight into a touring production and also offers a valuable networking opportunity. Many, many thanks to Paul Ramsay and The Who for inviting us along… the students really enjoyed it and getting tickets to the main show was the icing on the cake!”
