Our 2nd year Studio & Live Music Production students were recently treated to an exclusive guest lecture from the legendary Mr Scruff.
Mr Scruff needs no introduction to most music lovers; his name is associated with a mixture of acid/jazz/house/funk releases and even then it is hard to pigeon hole him into a specific genre. Mr Scruff’s productions span over a 20 year period with early releases being linked to our current Head of Audio Martin Desai who remixed his '96 classic “Chicken In A Box”.
Mr Scruff has been recording new material in SSR’s Spirit Studio over the past few months for his forthcoming album, and he also offered his immense experience and production talents to our students in the form of an exclusive guest lecture. He talked about topics ranging from Sound Synthesis to Sampling, and Sound Manipulation. He then gave his own personal account of the history of sampling as well as a few of his own insights.
SSR Head of Audio - Martin Desai:“Its been a pleasure working with Andy at SSR over the past few months, his passion for production is so refreshing and it was a really beneficial class for my students. Not only did they get to see how a working professional operates, but they also got to see some of the ideas that work outside of academic teaching.”
Guest lectures like this are a staple part of the SSR diet; we like to give students as many ingredients as possible to help kick-start their careers in the music industry.
We are keenly awaiting the release of Mr Scruff's new album. To keep up to date, make sure you check his website or follow him on twitter!Mr Scruff Official WebsiteMr Scruff on Twitter
