SSR prides itself on the strength of our ‘industry active tutors’ and post production tutor Dean Covill is no exception. Since graduating from SSR as a student in 2008, Dean has already worked on many high profile TV programmes and films and is a longstanding member of the production team behind Coronation Street, all alongside his teaching duties on our Audio Post Production course.
Dean is currently working on some of his biggest projects to date including BBC comedy ‘Fresh Meat’ and new Will Smith film ‘After Earth’.
After Earth is set to be a blockbuster release from Columbia Pictures, with the plot centring around a father and son (Will and Jaden Smith) exploring a planet that was evacuated by humans 1,000 years earlier.
Dean has worked as a freelance ADR mixer on both ‘Fresh Meat’ and ‘After Earth’ at Manchester’s 80 Hertz recording studio. Briefly described, an ADR mixer (Automated Dialogue Replacement) ensures that all the required dialogue on film soundtracks is accurately placed, and of the best possible quality. Dialogue takes from film and TV sets often need to be re-recorded at a later date for a variety of reasons, such as background noise interference or changes to the script.
SSR Post Production Tutor Dean Covill :“It is always a pleasure to work with 80 Hertz, the opportunity to work on projects like this is really exciting and demands a high level of professionalism. Furthermore it means I have some brilliant material to bring into lessons and share with my students…well, after its release of course!”
We are delighted to hear about Dean’s recent projects. It is a great asset of SSR to have such talented tutors as it not only inspires our students but increases the wealth of relevant teaching material for classes.
