Mr Scruff Visits SSR
The new academic year at SSR was marked by the arrival of local legend Mr Scruff, well known for his contributions to the Jazz, House, Disco and Soul scenes.
Mr Scruff, or Andy as he is known to his friends, is a passionate musician, artist & tea-drinker who has been DJ’ing since 1994 and has produced modern classics on around 25 different labels including the classic albums 'Trouser Jazz' and 'Keep it Unreal'. Andy also runs a very successfull club night in Manchester called Keep it Unreal which plays host to his renowned and eclectic DJ sets.
Andy was invited into our flagship Spirit Studio for a session engineered by SSR graduates Adam Stokel & Tom Leach under the supervision of our Head of Audio Martin Desai. Martin had previously worked with Andy remixing one of his tracks 'Chicken in a Box' under the pseudonym 'Programmers Revenge'. The session was used to record material for upcoming releases with Andy even asking SSR graduate Adam to drum on one of the tracks.
SSR’s Head of Audio Martin Desai:
“It was great to be reunited with Scruff again, I remember way back in 96 working with Andy on a remix for Chicken in a Box. Andy is still as creative as ever and it was a pleasure to witness his talents, and in his own words 'unorthodox' methods once again.”
