SSR tutor Paul Maunder & students work out of Parr Street Studios
Parr Street Studios in Liverpool has seen artists such as Coldplay, Take That, Spice Girls & Diana Ross use the studios to record their work. The studio has since been converted to facilitate one of Liverpool's latest live music venues.
In November 2011 Paul filmed interviews with a number of artists for a live music event named Soul 4 Soul. He was assisted by 3 students from the Film & TV Post Production course; Dave Tellam, Dale McCarty and Khalid Omar. Soul 4 Soul is a live music event which takes place once a month at Parr Street Studios and showcases up and coming soul artists.
They will be going back in February to film the event itself as well as producing a promotional video. Paul will be working with the students to record the audio of the live performances in Parr Street’s main studio, which has a Neve VR Legend desk. The post production will then be done in SSR Manchester’s ICON Suite.
SSR Film & TV post production tutor Paul Maunder:
"Working with the SSR students here at Parr Street studios presented an amazing opportunity for us all to work with some great artists. As well as the luxury of being able to record the audio for the entire live event through a Neve VR console, both the organisers and artists are all really nice people. We're looking forward to getting the recording underway, and of course to the post production and mixing, which we'll be doing in the ICON suite at SSR.
We wanted to push the technical boundaries with this project, so we've chosen to make the recordings at 24 bit/96khz to retain more of the dynamics and subtleties of the live performance. Mixing in SSR's ICON facility gives us the option of working with these recordings in full 5.1 surround sound too. We can't wait!"
SSR is always keen to support real world projects and we thank Paul for giving our students this opportunity.
