SSR Manchester - SSR & BBC bring science alive
SSR & BBC bring science alive
SSR welcomed Manchester band Doves and a team of producers from the BBC to our studios, for a day filming various experiments and demonstrations exploring the ‘science of sound’.

The footage is to be used in a series of programmes for the BBC designed to inspire young people into exploring science through interesting and engaging subjects, such as sound and audio among others.

Having worked closely with SSR’s Head of Audio Martin Desai to create and design the experiments, Doves spent a day in our flagship ‘Spirit Studio’ performing the pieces and talking the audience through the process of creating and manipulating sound.

The day was a great success and despite the pressures of filming to a tight schedule, Martin and co in Spirit did a great job and left both Doves and the BBC impressed with the facilities and knowledge on offer at SSR.

Doves vocalist Jimi Goodwin:
“It was a great experience working in Spirit Studio at SSR for this BBC Learning project. The SSR staff, and in particular Martin, were fun, friendly and above all very professional!”

SSR Principal Ian Hu:
“At SSR we pride ourselves on delivering dynamic, creative and engaging training and we were delighted to be involved with this production. The BBC shares our philosophy for nurturing talent and encouraging interaction and I am confident that together we have created a truely inspiring programme”
