SSR Manchester - SSR Goes Grand
SSR Goes Grand
SSR students have recently been asked to help run a new state of the art music and performance venue in the North West. Students on the final phase of our Audio Engineering course have been given the opportunity to work at ‘The Grand’, helping run events for the live venue and recording studio.

‘The Grand’ is a multi-million pound music, arts and performance venue, boasting some of the best audio equipment in the industry including full D&B FOH monitoring and Digidesign's legendary D-Show Profile desk. The venue can hold 400 people and will cater for different events such as live music, theatre and conferences. The venue is also strongly connected with local schools and colleges in the East Lancashire area, providing practical training workshops and work experience for students.

‘The Grand’ is offering a host of opportunities for our students to get their hands on this state of the art equipment and to supplement their SSR studies in a professional environment. They will work alongside fully trained and qualified technical staff and get a chance to experience working with both signed and unsigned artists.

As well as helping out on live gigs, the students will also have the opportunity to use the highly spec-d recording studio which is fully equipped with an SSL AWS900 mixing console supporting a 32 I/O Pro Tools HD3 rig. Recent artists to use the studio/venue include The Boomtown Rats, Dr Hook, Ruby Turner, Martin Simpson and Tom Baxter along with a selection of local bands and singers/songwriters.

Martin Desai, Head of Audio at SSR, said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to gain some invaluable experience in a real-world, professional venue. The facilities at ‘The Grand’ feature some very high end, industry standard equipment which should really benefit the learning experience of our students.”

SSR would like to thank ‘The Grand’ for offering this great opportunity to our students and we look forward to working with the venue in the future.
