SSR Manchester - 3D Film Course Update
3D Film Course Update
We are gearing up for the launch of the world’s first degree course in 3D film production which is due to start at SSR Manchester this September.

Alongside sourcing equipment and building a new filming suite for the course, we have been busy arranging support from leading figures and institutions in the industry.

We are pleased to announce support from some key people and companies including Disney, Pixar, Park Road, eMotion 3D, Movie Magic and Sky 3D, all of which will be offering various levels of support for the course including equipment donations, software packages, guest lectures, student discounts and of course job opportunities, work placements and internships.

Confirmed guest lecturers and industry speakers include Steve Schklair (3Ality), ABLive, eMotion 3D, Movie Magic, Joshua Hollander (Director of 3D at Pixar), Chris Johns (Head Technician at Sky 3D), Buzz Hayes, and Robert Neuman (Head of Stereo 3D at Disney). The lectures will be delivered in person at SSR and also via Skype, and we hope to confirm more names very soon.

Park Road, a post-production house owned by Peter Jackson’s WingNut Films is also getting behind the course, with Lead Stereographer Gokul Meetal confirmed for a guest lecture.

eMotion 3D have very kindly offered their support to the course with students being able to use their leading After Effects/ Nuke Plug-Ins for free, along with guest lectures form their staff.

SGO are also showing their support with a full version of their Mistika software package. Mistika continues to define and lead in DI and stereoscopic 3D technology. With efficient workflows and advanced toolsets, it provides an impressively reliable post production tool to overcome challenges, offering one complete solution supporting SD-HD-2K-4K-5K-8K and Stereo 3D including real-time native RED, ARRI, SI-2K and other data workflows.

We are also negotiating work placement and internship opportunities with the companies listed above and more we can’t tell you about just yet. We hope to announce further details shortly.

Course Leader Bruce Fitter:
“It’s great to see so many companies and individuals supporting the course and these partnerships will offer some valuable insights and opportunities for my students. I can’t wait to get started in September and bring the world of 3D Film Production to Manchester!”
