We asked John for an update on his career so far and his time spent at SSR...
John Mellor:
I graduated from SSR in 2011 with a BSc 2.1 honours on the Sound Engineering and Design course. I then went on to complete the MA Post production in TV and Film course delivered at Salford University, finishing with a Merit.I went on to work for Newcastle based WoodenGate Films and was the supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer on their award nominated short film Arrangement of Thorns
. The film was recently nominated for best short film at the Marbella International Film Festival in Spain. It also screened at the Dracula Film Festival in Romania. Arrangement of Thorns
currently remains on the international film festival circuit.

I am currently supervising sound editor and re-recording mixer on a romantic sci-fi comedy for Liverpool based company Haphazard Productions which features a plethora of film, theatre and TV actors including Neil Fitzmaurice (Phoenix Nights
and Peep Show
) Andrew Schofield (Scully
, Sharpe
, Sid and Nancy
, Law and Order UK
), Paul Duckworth (former Brookside
regular and featured in the 1994 movie Backbeat
).My 3 years at SSR were 3 of the best years of my life. SSR gave me the grounding and tools to enable me to go out and start working immediately. I keep in touch with my good friend and former SSR tutor Norbert Weiher who continues to mentor me from across the water. I'm very happy with the path I'm on and very excited for the future. We would like to congratulate John on his achievements in the industry so far and look forward to hearing what he gets up to in the future!
