Liam Lister is currently studying on our BSc (Hons) Studio & Live Music Production course and has already landed a job as monitor engineer for Manchester legends Inspiral Carpets!
Liam got the job following a chance meeting when the band visited SSR for rehearsal sessions ahead of their tour earlier this year.
We asked Liam to fill us in on the details:Liam Lister"I actually met the Inspirals initially in SSR. I approached them, just introduced myself to let them know who i was. Straight away we discovered we had a mutual friend in Terry Christian (who I did a Sunday night radio show with on Imagine FM) and it was by pure coincidence that a couple members of the band were appearing on the show as guests that following Sunday! That sunday at the show i spoke to Graham Lambert and Martyn Walsh from the band and we exchanged numbers, which led to me being invited to further show rehearsals at SSR and their music video shoot at Gorton Monastry for their forthcoming single at the time "Spitfire".They seemed to take a liking to me which resulted in me being invited along on their "mini tour" as the Monitor Engineer where we did a few gigs around Wales, Oxford and then the Isle of Wight Fesitval! Isle of Wight was especially amazing due to the sheer size of the event and the fact it was actually my first festival experience as a sound engineer aswell, so I was really thrown in at the deep end! I found the short time away a special experience to say the least and can't thank the Inspirals enough for giving me the opportunity having now led me on to be their Monitor Engineer. I am going back out on tour with the band from the 4th to 21st of December around the UK, including a stop at The Ritz in Manchester on the 19th which I'm really looking forward to.I would also like to say a big thanks to SSR for the great training I received (and continue to receive!) and presenting the opportunity to meet the band. This institution is most definitely the best place to come for all aspiring engineers!"

Martyn Walsh - Inspiral Carpets
"We met Liam during a session over at SSR when he came up to introduce himself and say hello, which we though was a great move! He's a really nice guy and has become a great addition to the Inspirals' live crew. Running monitors for a band at the Isle of White Festival is no easy way to start your career in the live sound industry but Liam was very professional and capable and ended up doing a great job, which is a testament to the training he received from his course at SSR!"
