SSR Manchester - SSR Students Engineer For Vince Giordano At The Manchester Film Festival
SSR Students Engineer For Vince Giordano At The Manchester Film Festival
As you may already be aware, SSR were proud sponsors of the Manchester Film Festival which took place at various venues in the city between 3rd and 6th March 2016.

Part of our sponsorship activities included connecting the organisers with SSR students, who were invited to assist with engineering duties at festival events, namely a collaborative performance between renowned Jazz musician Vince Giordano and Mart Rogers’ Manchester Jazz group.

This unique performance took place at The Printworks in Manchester, home of the city’s Odeon IMAX cinema, a few hours before that evening’s screening of festival feature Vince Giordano – There’s A Future In The Past, a documentary about the Brooklyn born jazz musician who brought the music to Boardwalk Empire and numerous Woody Allen films.

Vince Giordano is a musician and arranger, and leader of the New York-based Nighthawks Orchestra. Giordano is the leading American specialist in the jazz styles of the 1920s and 1930s and alongside the Nighthawks is responsible for the period music in Todd Haynes’ Carol, Martin Scorsese’s The Aviator, Robert DeNiro’s The Good Shepherd, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Cotton Club, Gus Van Sant’s Finding Forrester, Sam Mendes’ Revolutionary Road and Terry Zwigoff’s Ghost World.

SSR Studio & Live Music Production BSc (Hons) students Andrew Burland and Gabriel Catelli jumped at the chance to put their training into practice and help out; assisting the PA crew from Sound Base (which incidentally included an SSR graduate!) in setting up the PA, arranging the microphones and line checking, running stage monitors and FOH engineering.

Andrew and Gabriel both performed their roles competently and in a professional manner and, equally importantly, both very much enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to work with Vince and the Mart Rogers’ musicians.

Experiences and partnerships such as this form a large part of many of our courses; presenting unique opportunities for our students to gain experience, network and work alongside talented professionals and artists.

For more information on any of our courses, or to speak to us about them in detail, please get in touch.
