SSR Manchester - The Guest Lecture Series
The Guest Lecture Series
We are delighted to announce a series of exciting guest lectures featuring high profile industry speakers, exclusively for SSR students.

The first three lectures confirmed in the series feature a Grammy award winning producer, one of the nicest men in rock, and the producer behind The Stroke's first two albums!

Each lecture will be an 'on the couch' style Q&A session, with each guest talking us through their careers, sharing some of their knowledge and tips, offering advice and telling stories before answering questions from the floor.

Take a look at who we've got lined up...

Gordon Raphael - The Strokes / The Libertines + more
Monday 25th April - 2pm

Gordon Raphael is most widely known for his work with The Strokes, whom he met while attending one of their shows at Luna Lounge in New York City. He produced their debut EP The Modern Age as well as their first two albums Is This It (voted best album of the decade by NME, and number 2 best of the decade by Rolling Stone) and Room On Fire.

Gordon has also produced for and worked with the likes of Sarah Maguire, Fake Chemical State, Fobia, Regina Spektor and more.

Guy Garvey - Elbow / BBC 6 Music
Thursday 28th April - 6pm

As the lead singer of Elbow, an acclaimed solo artist and BBC Radio 6 DJ, Guy Garvey is one of the most-loved figures in the music industry and needs no introduction.

Jay Beard, long-time friend and colleague of Guy and our Head of Live Sound, will be acting as chief question master and moderator for this session that will take a closer look at guy's career in music, approaches to songwriting, his relationship with engineers/producers in the studio and much more.

Steve Levine - The Clash / Culture Club / Beach Boys / Motorhead + more

Friday 29th April - 2pm

Steve Levine is a Grammy award winning producer/engineer who has worked with some of the biggest bands going during his career in the music industry, including The Clash, Culture Club, Beach Boys, Lemmy & Motorhead, XTC, China Crisis, Ziggy Marley and many, many more.

During his visit to SSR, Steve will be talking about his life and career in music, sharing some of his knowledge and offering tips and advice for the budding engineers/producers that make up a large proportion of our student body.

We are very much looking forward to presenting our students with the opportunity to hear, and learn, from some of the music industry's most influential figures and we're sure each will prove invaluable for those in attendance.

SSR students wishing to attend these events should click on the links above in order to register their place. Seats are limited so we advise you to act fast in order to avoid disappointment.

Further lectures will also be announced over the coming weeks, with guest speakers from the worlds of film and games also lined up to visit us.
