SSR are proud to host a new, unique music show from our studios in Manchester.
The music show (going by the title ‘Big Slice Music Show’), has been devised to showcase the work of new unsigned artists from the North West, and broadcasts every Sunday 9pm-9:30pm across the ‘That's Manchester’ channel. The channel can be seen on Freeview channel 7 and Virgin 159.
Using our world class facilities, the production team over at Big Slice have full access to our facilities and engineers, and most importantly our students, including those studying on our Music Business & Creative Industries BSc (Hons)
For our music business students, observing how a show is pulled together in terms of A&R, logistics, scheduling and artist/ band management has been invaluable but it also demonstrates the importance of events and industry relationships like this to our methods of teaching.
As a result of the success of the Big Slice Music Show, we are now in the process of placing students directly with the production team so they can give input to the A&R process, as well as seeing first-hand the type of planning and execution required in programming.
Jo Hilditch, Course Leader elaborated on the show “Whist artists are the creative force behind their music, it's essential to understand how to bring in various income streams, how to market and promote music and how to navigate their careers. For our students to be part of this insight has been essential and highly rewarding”
Tom Melrose, producer at Big Slice added "We work very closely with SSR and this relationship plays an important part of the show’s success, they have world class facilities and staff at SSR, which allows our production team to work with them and their students to deliver a cutting edge TV music show”
With no bias toward genres or record labels, gives Big Slice Music Show the complete freedom to choose their music, and so expect an eclectic mix when you tune in from anywhere within nine UK regions!
