Mark McKinley (Mark XTC) (Xtra Tuff Cutta) started his DJing career at the tender age of 15 playing in places such as Sequins (Blackpool), Fantazia, Mythology and the legendary Hacienda, where in the late 80’s he won the North West DMC DJ Championships.

He then started producing his own music with his DJ group The Mix Factory where his mix of The Mix Factory track Take Me Away reached number 41 in the UK singles chart and also gained some good success in the American charts.

Mark has been involved in the region’s music scene since the early 1990’s by managing both Spin Inn and Eastern Bloc record shops in Manchester. As well as producing under various aliases (Snap Shot, McKinley and The X), he has also DJ’ed all over the world (Malia, Ibiza, USA, and across Europe) playing house music, hip hop, jungle and drum and bass at nights such as Helter Skelter, Dreamscape, The Hacienda, PSV, The Banshee, Sequins, The Eclipse/The Edge, Club Kinetic, Pure X and Fantazia. He is renowned for his drum and bass/jungle sets and played alongside Ratpack, Marshall Jefferson, Alistair Whitehead, Graham Park, Alex P & Brandon Bloc, Slipmatt, Top Buzz, 2 Bad Mice and 808 State.

He has released tunes on many labels including Moving Shadow, Integral, Hard Leaders, Penny Black and Dread, FFRR, Warner Bros and PWL. Mark has also lined up work with various artists including Marshall Jefferson, Chimpo, Northbase, Oliver Lang, Pete Cannon, Virus Syndicate and Tonn Piper.

Mark joins SSR as a DJ tutor where he will be sharing his knowledge and passion with our students.
