Rigging & Risers Assistant
SSR graduate Will Lucas completed our Audio Engineering Techniques & Technology course earlier this year and has just secured a job with SSE Audio Group!
SSE Audio Group provides professional audio services including PA hire, Pro Audio sales and audio installations. Its UK headquarters are centrally located in Redditch near Birmingham with additional UK offices and warehouses in London and the North of England.
The SSE group now also includes SSR creative partner Wigwam Acoustics after the two companies joined forces earlier this year. Both SSE and Wigwam have a strong presence in the UK audio and touring market and have been involved in its growth and development over the past 35 Years, working with numerous artists including One Direction, Coldplay, Simply Red, Madness, Metallica, ACDC, Stevie Wonder, Radiohead, Madonna, Bjork, Spice Girls, Boyzone, Oasis and The Stone Roses.
SSE recently approached SSR with some information on job vacancies that we happily passed on to our students, and we are very pleased to report that Will Lucas is now employed as a Rigging and Risers Assistant with the company.
We got in touch with Will to ask him about the job, how he prepared for the selection process and his time training with SSR:Will Lucas: “I have just finished my first week as Rigging & Risers Assistant at SSE in Redditch, and have already worked out on the road in Liverpool at the BBC Radio 1xtra event in the Echo Arena. I did not think that the Live Sound Industry was the career path that I wanted to go down when I started the course at SSR, as I felt much more interested in studio work but I am really enjoying this route! I will be working throughout next summer on site at various major UK festivals so I am very excited to get to the festival season! The day to day role consists of checking, cleaning and maintaining the motors that are used for hanging the PA, and other items above the stage, preparing all the risers for any up and coming gigs/tours that are booked in, and general prep around the warehouse for events. For the application, obviously I tailored my CV to suit the role, and also ended up doing a couple of days work experience there before I actually got the job. As my training with SSR focused on live sound and studio work, I probably have more technical audio knowledge than is required for this particular role, but I know that I have to work my way up and with hard work and dedication I aim to move up to a role that includes some engineering once I have proved myself in this department.”
Claudette Barker-Dix – SSE Audio Group: “SSR was introduced to SSE Audio Group by colleagues at Wigwam Acoustics. Wigwam has enjoyed a successful professional relationship with SSR for many years and highly rate the quality of its students. Following this recommendation SSE is delighted to appoint Will Lucas (former SSR Audio Engineering student), as Rigging and Risers Assistant. Will was a superb candidate, he has the attributes, skills and knowledge for a long and successful career with SSE. Hopefully Will will be just the first of many successful candidates that come through SSR to find positions at SSE.”
We would like to congratulate Will on landing the position with SSE and wish him all the best for his future career.Further Information:
