Live Sound Engineering

Rory Birch was awarded the Charlie Jones Scholarship for our industry course Audio Engineering Techniques & Technology and he graduated in 2009. Since then Rory has worked as a Studio Assistant at SSR and also gone on to work with some of the industries major PA companies.

Rory Birch:
"Since leaving the Audio Engineering course, I’ve worked in the live sound industry for sound hire companies Wigwam Acoustics, STS Touring and Noisebox. I have worked on various music events and on Michael Flatley’s Lord of the Dance Tour as well as an in house role of Sound Engineer at the Witchwood music venue. Working freelance allowed me to keep my audio work varied so in this time I’ve also had a role employed as a sound engineer at a youth centre and have worked on various youth media projects. I currently work at SSR as a Studio Assistant, whilst being freelance and working on my studio and production skills, which SSR has helped me develop by working with their high class studios and audio equipment facilites. I would like to thank everyone at SSR for the teaching and support, and particularly Helen Jones and Wigwam Acoustics for awarding me the Charlie Jones Scholarship which has helped me get to where I am now."
