Sound Engineer - The Convention Centre Dublin
Anita McCarthy was the first ever recipient of the Charlie Jones Scholarship back in 2007 and graduated from our Audio Engineering Techniques & Technology course in 2008.
We recently contacted Anita to see what she had been up to since leaving SSR...
"I am presently working as the senior member of the sound department at The Convention Centre in Dublin. The Convention Centre is a purpose built venue with multiple large venues and a two thousand seat theatre on the top floor. It is presently ranked in the top four convention centres in the world.
I work on music, entertainment, television and corporate gigs and we are kitted out from head to toe in D&B equipment, using R1 remote software to control all our amps remotely. We have one DiGiCo SD7, three SD8's and a Midas Legend for FOH. Our communications system is Clearcom and we have the ability to connect all our comms systems over the five floors together for an event wired and wireless. The CCD has been designed with the highest spec of sound, video and lighting equipment with the ability to patch audio and video from anywhere in the building.
We hosted the concert for the Queen's visit to Ireland along with X Factor shows, performances by Jools Holland, David Gray, Lionel Ritchie, Westlife, Kim Wilde, Glenn Campbell to name a few. Our clients have included Google, Dell, Irish Film and Television Awards, Skoda, Euronano. NetApp, Teradata, Emirates, TM Forum, L'Oreal, Iceland and EPP."
It's been a long time since I was at SSR but I attribute a lot of my fundamental mixing skills and live skills to the time I spent in the studios and live room there. I am also still in contact with many of my fellow students that are now working full time in sound and have become good contacts to have in the industry."
